In 1998, a dedicated group of parents successfully petitioned the state and Bensalem Township School District, making School Lane Charter School the first charter school in Bucks County and the first suburban K-8 charter school in Pennsylvania. Automating attendance at School Lane Charter begins with ScholarChip’s ID Manager, used to photograph and print customized smart ID cards. Kiosks are placed at the school’s entrance; students tap in and they are counted as present in the building. Aside from school arrival and departure times, students can access the building using their ID cards at secure door locations. These standalone kiosks will also be used for large group attendance activities like dances or sports events.
Smart ID card-based automation allows administrators to keep schools more secure; they can monitor school attendance in real time, which can be vital in the case of emergency. ScholarChip’s reports also support data-driven operation decisions, which increase efficiency and security.
